46th National Exhibition of Bulgarian Cartoon at the National Palace of Culture in July

The pandemic is one of the “inspirers” in the exhibition

 

The Cartoon Section of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the National Palace of Culture present the “46th National Exhibition of Bulgarian Cartoon“, which will be held between July 15 and 30, 2021 in the West Lobby of the National Palace of Culture. The exhibition is an annual and beloved event by the audience – an overview of the achievements of contemporary Bulgarian artists working in the field of cartooning. The National Palace of Culture is a traditional host of the event, and this year it is also part of the initiatives on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its establishment.

The idea of the exhibition is primarily to provoke and entertain its viewers. It aims to stimulate the development of the art of cartooning in Bulgaria, as well as to contribute to the popularization of the work of Bulgarian cartoonists, who this year were awarded a number of awards in the country and abroad.

The exhibition presents works by more than 30 contemporary Bulgarian authors, created from April 1, 2020 to the present day. In addition to caricatures and caricatures of celebrities, the exhibition features satirical drawings, digital graphics, paintings.

The themes, as always, are diverse, with a predominant interest in political satire, the pandemic and the crisis as the main “inspirer”, but there is also works on football and erotic themes.

 

A jury consisting of: Stoyan Dechev, Valeri Alexandrov – Valeks, Dilyana Nikolova, Lyubomir Mihaylov, Svetlin Stefanov, will determine the awards of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the Cartoon Section, as well as the authoritative award of Sofia Municipality, established in memory of the great Bulgarian artist Donyo Donev. All awards will be announced during the official opening – on July 15, 2021 at 18.00, National Palace of Culture, West Lobby, A4 entrance.
